OBSCURITY (GOING BLIND)

Dream Meaning

To lose sight in a dream — to feel the light retreating and the familiar world dissolving into grey formlessness — is to experience one of the psyche's most visceral symbols for the refusal or inability to see. This blindness is never random; the unconscious chooses it precisely because something in the waking situation has become too uncomfortable, too destabilizing, or too threatening to the dreamer's established worldview for direct vision to be tolerated.

The facts may be present, clearly available, and even urgently important — but something in you has decided, consciously or not, that not seeing is preferable to the consequences of fully acknowledging what is visible. Going blind in a dream is also sometimes a prelude to a different kind of sight: the withdrawal of external vision that forces the development of an interior knowing.

Ask yourself not just what you cannot see, but what you have chosen not to see, and whether the cost of continued blindness is becoming greater than the truth itself.
