RESTRAINT (PRISONER)
Dream Meaning
The prisoner in a dream is one of the most psychologically complex figures the unconscious produces — simultaneously a symbol of guilt, of suppressed desire, and of the waking self's experience of being trapped by circumstances it did not fully choose. If you are the prisoner, the dream is mapping a felt reality: some combination of obligation, fear, self-judgment, or external constraint has curtailed the expression of who you truly are.
The prison walls may be built from others' expectations, from unconfessed guilt, or from a part of yourself that has never been permitted legitimate expression. If you are observing a prisoner rather than embodying one, the dream may reflect a tendency to judge others harshly for the very impulses you suppress in yourself.
Freedom in both cases begins the same way: with honest acknowledgment of what is being held and why.
